Already for 25 years the World Quality Day is celebrated on the second Thursday of November. This initiative of the European Quality Organization is supported by the United Nations. In 2015 European Quality Week was celebrated on 9-15 November under the slogan Quality-Emotions-Inspiration.
Since 1992 Ukrainian Association for Quality annually holds the International Forum "Quality Days in Kiev" dedicated to the World Quality Day (since 1993 the Forum became the central national event of the European Quality Week in Ukraine).
In the current 2015 year the 24th International Forum was held in Kiev on 11-13 November. Within the framework of the Forum the Ukrainian Association for Quality (UAQ) has celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Organizers of the Forum: Ukrainian Association for Quality and Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs with the support of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Public Council under the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and the Bogomolets National Medical University.
A series of quality events have been held within the Forum: meeting of the UAQ Board, Conference "Ukraine paves the way to the EU: how to achieve the competitiveness of enterprises and the economy", number of thematic seminars on topical issues of organizations management improvement, as well as jubilee meeting of the UAQ’s veterans.
During the Board meeting Mr. Kalyta, President of UAQ, has informed members about the UAQ’s outcome for 25 years and for the last 2015 year as well as future tasks. His report has been unanimously approved by the Board members. Also members of the Board have discussed and approved the activity undertaken for organization of the Forum, results of the Grand Prix of the Second International Competition on management for youth and other organizational issues of the UAQ’s further activity.
Conference "Ukraine paves the way to the EU: how to achieve the competitiveness of enterprises and the economy" became the central event of the Forum. More than 500 participants have attended the Conference, among which were teachers of educational institutions, managers and specialists of enterprises and organizations, representatives of businesses associations and students. Considering the need to involve young people to the movement for excellence and quality it was decided to invite much more students and young specialists to attend the conference.
The first session of the conference was devoted to the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian Association for Quality.
President of UAQ Petro Kalyta made a presentation on the topic "Ahead the time: 25 steps of Ukrainian Association for Quality to the future".
During the first session high ranked representatives have congratulated the Ukrainian Association for Quality on its 25th anniversary. Greetings were received from the European Organization for Quality (EOQ), EFQM, International Quality Professionals Guild, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Public Council under the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, leaders of many national quality organizations and Ukrainian NGOs, enterprises and institutions.
President of Ukrainian Association for Quality has awarded some managers and specialists of organizations with the UAQ Honorary Diplomas for long-term cooperation and support the deployment of Ukrainian movement for business excellence and quality.
EFQM certificate Recognised for Excellence 5* was awarded to the CEO of company "Plaske" from Odessa. A number of new UAQ members have been awarded with UAQ membership certificates.
Ukraine's European way of development, its problems and prospects have been discussed on the second session of the conference.
During this session high ranked representatives of Ukrainian NGOs and key Government offices made presentations on how the Ukrainian economy can cope with the economic crisis bearing in mind the crisis management methods and the requirements of quality. The presentations highlighted that improving the competitiveness in the whole sphere of the Ukrainian economy is inevitable, moreover, in some fields structural changes have to be implemented.
The third session of the conference was devoted to up-to-date approaches to the improvement of companies’ competitiveness.
A number of presentations on various aspects of quality, excellence and competitiveness have been presented to the conference participants. The Head of the Management Systems Certification Body “PRIROST-member of DQS Group” Mykhail Makukh has shared the latest world and Ukrainian news on standards based target management systems.
Director of Company of Quality Professionals “SYSTEMY”, EFQM Excellence Award Assessor, member of International Quality Professionals Guild Taras Kalyta has informed participants about the most famous tools of companies’ improvement – the EFQM Excellence Model.
Director of UAQ Personnel Certification Body Mr. Kabakov has presented possibilities of personnel trainings and certification. He also informed about the experience of involving young specialists and students in the movement for excellence and quality and about results of Grand Prix of the Second International Competition on management for youth which has been held in Gomel (Republic of Belarus).
Grand Prix winners Alina Strelets (student of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute) and Alexander Gavrilko (auditor of Management Systems Certification Body “PRIROST – member of DQS Group”) have shared their thoughts about the International Competition on management for youth with the conference participants.
Director of the Institute of Higher Education of the Kiev National Economic University, professor Larysa Antonyuk has informed participants about the new discipline "Business Excellence Management", which for the first time in the practice of Ukrainian universities has been introduced in KNEU.
Best practices of Ukrainian companies have been presented on the fourth session of the conference. The representatives of a number of successful companies reported about the methods used by them in achieving the level of excellence.
Thematic workshops on important aspects of quality, business excellence and effective management have been held on 11th and 13th November within the framework of the 24th International Forum "Quality Days in Kyiv":
- Development of prerequisite programmes on ISO/TS 22002-1:2009 - a key stage of food safety management system (Yuri Belov, Senior Consultant of the Company of Quality Professionals “SYSTEMY”, EOQ Management Systems Senior Consultant)
- EFQM Concepts of Excellence – principles of the best European companies (Taras Kalyta, Director of Company of Quality Professionals “SYSTEMY”, EFQM Excellence Award Assessor)
- Risk-oriented thinking in the requirements of new version of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2016 (Tatiana Gankevich, Senior Consultant of the Company of Quality Professionals “SYSTEMY”, EOQ Management Systems Consultant)
- The new version of ISO 9001:2015: what it requires and how to be prepared for this (Taras Kalyta, Director of Company of Quality Professionals “SYSTEMY”, member of International Quality Professionals Guild, EFQM Excellence Award Assessor)
- Energy Management System according to ISO 50001- as a way to improve the enterprises’ efficiency (Mykhail Makukh, Head of the Management Systems Certification Body “PRIROST-member of DQS Group”)
- Business culture - the basis of success and competitiveness of companies and economies (Petro Kalyta, President of Ukrainian Association for Quality, Honorary President of International Quality Professionals Guild).
The last seminar, which reviewed "wrong" actions in Ukraine and what has to be done in order to achieve competitiveness of enterprises and the economy at the international, particularly European markets, took place in the premise of Ministry of Economic Development of Ukraine. Employees of the Ministry also have attended the seminar.
After conference finished, the Business Centre of Quality Leaders Club gathered veterans of Ukrainian Association for Quality - those who participated in the UAQ creation and formation. All of them were awarded with UAQ Diplomas. During the meeting veterans recalled episodes of the UAQ’s life and shared their ideas on its future.
World Quality Day, European Quality Week in Ukraine, the 24th International Forum "Quality Days in Kiev`2015" as well as the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian Association for Quality are over and new work on deployment of movement for business excellence and quality in our country is ahead.
